The Americans occupied Okinawa in 1945 prior to dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and they continue to occupy Okinawa to this day.
The people there are resisting the construction of a new Marine base in Henoko, just as the people of tiny Gangjeong Village on Jeju Island. (The Ghosts of Jeju) They are up against the central government in Tokyo and the courts who appear to be under the control of the American empire.
